A Portrait Show takes a very Houston look at one of the oldest genres of visual art. There’s a sense of connection that comes with a portrait, a reaching out to the person inside the frame, bridging the gap of time and place to find a common moment together. The artists in A Portrait Show are a powerful group of emerging Houston photographers who take unique approaches to this ancient art form, representing their subjects in ways that are sometimes formal and sometimes unconventional. It’s a show as diverse as the city it’s from, and a testament to the power of closeness from the other side of a lens.
