ADVanced Darkroom Techniques
Next Class - aPRIL 11TH

Come learn how to take your prints to the next level through Advanced Darkroom Techniques. Here you’ll discover ways to coax every last bit of detail from both shadows and highlights using advanced dodging, burning and split toning techniques. We’ll troubleshoot those tricky negatives together and you’ll have time to practice and ask questions. By the end of our time together, you’ll have the practical skills to create prints that finally match your vision. Sign up today!


The clean machine Workshop

Next Class -APRIL 18TH

Join us for a fun, hands-on session where you'll learn the essential skills and best practices for keeping your photography gear pristine! Bring your own camera and 1-2 lenses. All necessary cleaning supplies will be provided for use during the workshop. You'll practice professional maintenance and care under the guidance of an expert and walk away with a sparkling clean setup!


FLATS’ TEEN PHOTO CAMP
JUne 15-19

This June, we're opening up our darkroom to 6 lucky teens (ages 14-18) for an unforgettable journey into the enchanting world of analog photography. From cyanotypes to crafting your own pinhole camera, from film developing to printing your masterpieces – get ready for a week filled with creativity and discovery!

Summer camp will be June 15th-19th, Mon-Thurs 11am-5pm & Fri 12pm-5pm, and taught by our Education Coordinator Jeremy Perez. On Friday June 19th we will host an open house where all of the participants will show their work to the public, it is highly encouraged that friends and family come!

During the week students will learn how to build a pinhole camera, how use a 35mm camera, how to develop film, how to work in a darkroom, and more!

The camp will be free thanks to generous donations from our community! All photo supplies will be provided but if you own a film camera you are encouraged to bring it!

Spots are limited and applications close May 4th so don’t wait!


The Fundamentals of Film Photography
Next Class - TBD

Shoot with intention and take control of your photos in the Fundamentals of Film Photography. We will be covering basic concepts and practices of film photography, including loading & unloading your camera, understanding the difference in film types, and some light memory jogs on photographic principles & techniques.


Working in the Darkroom
Next class - TBD

This introductory darkroom workshop will teach you the basic techniques for printing black & white photographs. You’ll gain critical knowledge of how to use your processed film to create contact sheets and test strips, which will help you determine the tonal range of your photos. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with at least one completed photo print that you made with your own hands.



DEVELOPING YOUR B&W FILM FROM BEGINNING TO END

Want to take control of the full end-to-end process of your photography practice? This will get you started. You’ll learn the tools and techniques necessary to properly turn your black & white film into usable negatives. With this new skill, you’ll be able to confidently develop your black & white film from the comfort of your own home… or our brand new community darkroom space!



Printing in Blue: Cyanotype Workshop - TBD

FLATS has teamed up with In Bloom Flower Shop to teach you the magic of the cyanotype process.


In this workshop, we’ll forage through the In Bloom garden and shop for natural botanical items and other found objects to use as subjects for our cyanotype photograms. We’ll cover a brief history of the process and you’ll learn how to prepare, assemble, and create your very own cyanotype prints.


BOOK A PRIVATE LESSON

FLATS also offers private lessons for those who are interested in a more one on one setting.
Private lessons can cover loading & shooting film, to film developing, and even darkroom printing. Lessons range from $50-$60 an hour, depending on the chemistry and equipment used.
